Common Pediatric Dental Emergencies

  • Toothache: If your child is experiencing a persistent toothache, rinse their mouth with warm water and gently floss to remove any trapped food. Avoid placing aspirin or any other painkiller directly on the gums.

  • Knocked-Out Tooth: If a permanent tooth is knocked out, keep it moist by placing it in milk or a tooth preservation product. Bring your child and the tooth to our office immediately. For baby teeth, contact us to determine the best course of action.

  • Chipped or Broken Tooth: Rinse the mouth with warm water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. Save any broken pieces of the tooth and bring them to our office as soon as possible.

  • Lost Filling or Crown: If a filling or crown is lost, cover the cavity with dental cement or sugarless gum to protect it until you can get to our office.

  • Bitten Tongue or Lip: Clean the area gently with water and apply a cold compress to reduce swelling. If bleeding persists, seek immediate medical attention.
